A National Day of Truth Telling
w/ Vanessa Redgrave
These two programs address very fundamental social justice issues -
the treatment of women and children.
While we, as humans but particularly in industrial societies with
grossly disproportionate effect on the rest of the world, like to think
of ourselves as generous and compassionate, closer examination reveals
how great a gulf exists between how individuals might respond to
suffering and oppression and the government policies, corporate agendas,
institutional inertia and cultural biases that perpetuate the appalling
mistreatment of the majority of people on earth.
is
a media collective in Raleigh, North Carolina. Creating a World Without Sexual Violence - A National Day of Truth
Telling documents protests triggered by the Duke University lacrosse
team rape charges. The subsequent revelation of prosecutor
misconduct where exculpatory DNA evidence was withheld - and all charges
against the Duke students were withdrawn when revealed - gives cold comfort to a community sent
reeling by the incident and sheds no light on the truth of
the matter. The underlying culture of sexual violence -
rooted in slavery and directed primarily against women but also against gay men - continues.
These women and men address that issue in their march and rally of 28
April 2007 in Durham, NC - home of Duke University

Creating a World Without Sexual Violence
UNICEF’s mission is to advocate for the protection of
children’s rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand
their opportunities to reach their full potential. UNICEF is guided in
doing this by the provisions and principles of the Convention on the
Rights of the Child.
Vanessa Redgrave, widely respected and often revered actress,
activist and humanitarian, is an official Goodwill Ambassador for
UNICEF. Her commitment to serving children worldwide led to this
collaboration with her son, London filmmaker, Carlo Nero. This
documentary chronicles the 60 year struggle - and victories - of UNICEF
to make the world safe for the most vulnerable among us - the children.
